Overview
This conference aims to continue to fill the knowledge gap in Oncologic Emergency Medicine by providing information in an interactive forum that in turn enhances medical decision-making by healthcare providers working in an acute care setting.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify extensive knowledge of the past, current and future state of the specialty of Oncologic Emergency Medicine.
  2. Apply clinical best practices for treating oncologic emergencies in an acute care setting.
  3. Demonstrate effective communication and teamwork in conjunction with attending to the complex care of patients with cancer.
  4. Recognize the role of Emergency Medicine practitioners in treating patients diagnosed with cancer.
  5. Demonstrate the importance of education in Oncologic Emergency Medicine.

Registration

The conference will be held in a hybrid environment (in-person and virtual). The conference in-person registration will be held at the Duncan Building (CPB) Conference Center, Floor 8 located at 1155 Pressler Street, Houston, Texas 77030.  Registration and Continental breakfast opens at 8:30 AM and the Welcome and Introduction will begin at 9:00 AM on Friday, February 7, 2025 and will adjourn at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 8, 2025 with the Post Conference Workshop ending at 4:30 PM. 

The welcome reception is scheduled for Friday, February 7, 2025 at 5:15 pm immediately after the conference adjourns.

When Less is Actually More - Crucial Conversations and Critical Patient Care Techniques for Advanced Cancer Patients in the ED

This is a 4- hour workshop aimed at preparing Healthcare Professionals (HCP) to become effective communicators and providers of end-of-life care.  Performing goals of care discussions with an acutely decompensating cancer patient and/or their loved ones poses many unique challenges for the healthcare provider.  Not only must these critical conversations take place within a shorter time period, but providers must also be able to acutely manage symptoms and pain at the same time.

Evaluation
A course evaluation tool will provide participants with the opportunity to comment on the value of the program content to their practice decisions, performance improvement activities, or possible impact on patient health status. Participants will also have the opportunity to comment on any perceived commercial bias in the presentations as well as to identify future educational topics.  The survey link will be provided during the review course.

Refund/Cancellation Policy
The registration fee, minus a $50.00 administration-handling fee, is refundable if a written request is received on or before Monday January 6, 2025.  No refunds will be granted after these dates. The request for a registration refund must include the tax identification number of the company or institution if registration was paid by a company or institution check. 

The Department of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) reserves the right to cancel activities prior to the scheduled date, if low enrollment or other circumstances make it necessary.  Each registrant will be notified by mail, e-mail, or at the phone or fax numbers given on the registration form.  In case of activity cancellation, the liability of the Department of Continuing Professional Education, is limited to the registration fee. CPE will refund the full registration fee. 
The Department of Continuing Professional Education, reserves the right to limit the number of participants in a program and is not responsible for any expenses incurred by an individual whose registration is not confirmed and for whom space is not available.
