Overview
This symposium focuses on the evaluation and management of complex clinical scenarios encountered in the intensive care unit. This activity is designed to enhance clinicians’ knowledge, competence, and performance in managing acute complications of cancer and cancer therapy, in response to rising ICU admissions among oncology patients

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify and manage common and emerging complications in critically ill oncology patients.
  2. Integrate available resources and critical care interventions to improve clinical management of critically ill cancer patients.
  3. Discuss evolving innovations and systems based approaches in oncologic critical care, including AI applications, ERAS pathways, and quality improvement frameworks to shape the future of cancer care delivery.
  4. Evaluate and apply advanced respiratory and ventilatory strategies.
  5. Apply evidence based decision making for high risk procedures and supportive care.

Registration

A Hybrid Conference
The International Symposium of Critical Care in Cancer Patients will be held as a hybrid conference. The conference in-person registration will be held at the Mitchell Research Building Onstead Auditorium located at 6767 Bertner Avenue, Floor 3, Houston, Texas 77030.  Registration and Continental breakfast opens at 7:00 AM (CST) and the Welcome and Introduction will begin at 8:00 AM on Thursday, November 5, 2026 and will adjourn at 5:05 PM on Friday, November 6, 2026.  

The virtual (Zoom) information and all other necessary links will be emailed out the week of the conference.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

All abstract submitters should be prepared to present their work as a poster.

In addition to submitting an abstract, conference registration must be completed.

Abstract Formatting Instructions

  • Limit abstracts to one page, 12-point Times New Roman font, single spaced with one-inch margins, and left justified.

  • Abstract Length:  One page only with 325-word limit on US letter size paper.

  • Organize the abstract into: Purpose, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.

  • All abbreviations or acronyms should be spelled out the first time they are used.

  • Provide three to five keywords describing the nature and content of the abstract.

  • Please include the name of the conference, title of your presentation, author’s full name, highest degree, and institutional affiliation.

  • Also please include the author’s contact number and email address.

Accepted abstract first authors will be invited to create a Poster of their research for display. Freestanding 4ft. x 8ft. display boards and pushpins will be provided for the poster presentation.

Abstract and Poster Notification Dates

The conference committee will select abstracts for presentations based on the scientific merit and the quality of the content. Abstracts that are not submitted in the format above will not be accepted. Abstracts will not be edited.

The deadline for receipt of abstracts is Friday, September 4, 2026, at 11:59 PM CST. The first author of the abstract will receive an automated submission email confirming that the abstract has been received. Notification of acceptance for poster presentations with directives will be sent out via email on Monday, September 14, 2026.

Note: In addition to submitting an abstract, conference registration must be completed.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • Deadline to submit abstracts is 11:59PM CST, September 4, 2026.

  • Abstracts will only be accepted electronically. Submissions should be emailed to  [email protected] and [email protected].

  • Authors may submit abstracts of completed work or work in progress within the past two years. Posters that have been presented at other meetings are welcomed.

  • Please include with submission: First author’s name/title/credentials, affiliated organization, title of poster, email address, phone number, and collaborators (if any).

  • Submit a PPT version of completed poster by October 2, 2026.

  • Notifications of acceptance will be email by October 9, 2026.

Evaluation
A course evaluation tool will provide participants with the opportunity to comment on the value of the program content to their practice decisions, performance improvement activities, or possible impact on patient health status. Participants will also have the opportunity to comment on any perceived commercial bias in the presentations as well as to identify future educational topics.

Refund/Cancellation Policy
The registration fee, minus a $50.00 administration-handling fee, is refundable if a written request is received on or before Monday, October 5, 2026.  No refunds will be granted after these dates. The request for a registration refund must include the tax identification number of the company or institution if registration was paid by a company or institution check.

The Department of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) reserves the right to cancel activities prior to the scheduled date, if low enrollment or other circumstances make it necessary.  Each registrant will be notified by mail, e-mail, or at the phone or fax numbers given on the registration form.  In case of activity cancellation, the liability of the Department of Continuing Professional Education is limited to the registration fee.  CPE will refund the full registration fee. 

The Department of Continuing Professional Education reserves the right to limit the number of participants in a program and is not responsible for any expenses incurred by an individual whose registration is not confirmed and for whom space is not available.
