Call for Abstracts:

The 2026 Oncologic Emergency Medicine Conference invites the submission of abstracts in two areas:

  • Clinical Research

  • Quality Improvement Research

The goal is to provide the audience an opportunity to collaborate and stimulate discussions specifically on how an emergency center delivers quality patient care whether in an academic, hospital or community-based setting. The type of research can be qualitative or quantitative and have a focus on medical education in oncologic care in the acute setting, public health, health services, epidemiology, or public policy. Ideally there should be a focus on the care of the cancer patient in an emergency department setting but work in areas commonly encountered in oncological patients such as sepsis, pain, electrolyte imbalances, symptom management, and palliative care measures are encouraged.

Authors may submit abstracts of completed work, work in progress, or work elsewhere within the past 12 months. Selected abstracts will be published in the Journal of Emergency Medicine.

Accepted abstract authors will be invited to create a PowerPoint poster (1 slide) of their research for display in an in-person digital e-poster hall. Posters will be shared in PDF format and will only be available to paid registrants.

Abstract Submission Instructions
Abstracts will only be accepted electronically and should be submitted to: https://submit.mdanderson.org/?event=88984d73-710b-4955-8dff-ac51128e0f4a

The deadline for receipt of abstracts is 11:59 PM (CST) on Friday, January 16, 2026. Notification of acceptance for poster presentations will be acknowledged on a rolling basis.

  Post Conference Workshop 1
(Space is limited to 20 participants)

When Less is Actually More - Crucial Conversations and Critical Patient Care Techniques for Advanced Cancer Patients in the ED

Saturday, February 7, 2026 (CST)
12:30 PM - 4:30 PM

This is a 4- hour workshop aimed at preparing Healthcare Professionals (HCP) to become effective communicators and providers of end-of-life care.  Performing goals of care discussions with an acutely decompensating cancer patient and/or their loved ones poses many unique challenges for the healthcare provider.  Not only must these critical conversations take place within a shorter time period, but providers must also be able to acutely manage symptoms and pain at the same time.

Post Conference Workshop 2
(Space is limited to 20 participants)

Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS)
in the Emergency Setting

Saturday, February 7, 2026 (CST)
12:30 PM - 5:00 PM

Join us for a hands-on POCUS Workshop designed specifically for emergency medicine providers. Learn to harness the power of handheld ultrasound devices to make faster, more accurate bedside decisions—whether guiding procedures or evaluating critically ill patients. This interactive session combines expert-led instruction with real-time scanning practice, giving you the skills and confidence to integrate POCUS seamlessly into your clinical workflow.
