In module 11 of the activity series, Fundamentals of Radiation Oncology (FORO), the learners will be able to understand the disease-site specific management of cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy. The learner will be able to describe the disease-site specific management of gastrointestinal cancers commonly treated with radiation therapy. Standard radiation treatments, common side effects, preventative care, toxicity management, patient education, and case scenario will also be discussed. *Note to learner: Disease-site specific modules of the FORO series may be taken in any order.

1. Discuss the role of radiation in gastrointestinal cancers, including the different types of radiation utilized based on staging and other risk factors.
2. Describe prevention and treatment strategies to manage radiation therapy side effects.
3. Summarize patient education recommended for patients undergoing radiation therapy for gastrointestinal cancers.
