Overview
When individual or group behaviors undermine the best attempts to create a safe, respectful, and reliable environment, an organization needs a plan and the right people, processes and systems in place. The Vanderbilt Center for Patient and Professional Advocacy has conducted more than 20 years of research to help medical centers and physician groups make healthcare kinder, safer, and more reliable environment. Promoting Professionalism provides practical tactics for attendees who wish to implement these tools into their own organization.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify and describe relationships between behaviors that undermine a culture of safety and suboptimal outcomes of care and team performance.
  2. Apply a method that may be used for identifying and effectively addressing professionals with apparent and persistent patterns of behaviors that undermine a culture of safety and respect.
  3. Describe the three graduated levels of interventions for addressing behavior that undermine a culture of safety and respect.

Registration

Faculty members, APPs and other interested employees are encouraged to join and understand how MD Anderson uses the Vanderbilt model to promote a culture of professionalism and psychological safety.
