Overview

The Advancements in Translational Science for Pain Management in Cancer Care Symposium: A Catalyst for Collaborative Innovation in Pain Sciences. This unique platform unites experts from diverse backgrounds, fostering interdisciplinary discussions on cutting-edge research. Bridging gaps between departments, the symposium stimulates new projects, aiming to advance the understanding and treatment of post-cancer pain. Breaking silos in pain research, it cultivates innovative solutions, shaping the future of pain management. Join us for a transformative event blending scientific exploration, collaborative networking, and the opportunity to shape the future of pain management.

Keynote Speaker

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Sean Mackey will be the keynote speaker for the May 10 symposium, Advancements in Translational Science for Pain Management in Cancer Care. Dr. Mackey’s extensive experience in the realm of pain research—including innovative work in pain assessment and strong ties to patient care in pain research and treatment—gives him new and unique insights that will be of interest to this diverse audience.

Dr. Mackey is Redlich Professor of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine, Chief of the Division of Pain Medicine, and Director of the Stanford Systems Neuroscience and Pain Lab http://snapl.stanford.edu/ at Stanford University. He received his B.S.E. and M.S.E. in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania and his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, as well as his M.D., from the University of Arizona. He completed his residency and pain medicine fellowship at Stanford and joined the faculty there in 1999.

Dr. Mackey has served as principal investigator on multiple NIH and FDA grants seeking to better understand the mechanisms of pain and to translate that knowledge into safe and effective therapies. He has authored more than 300 journal articles and book chapters, in addition to having co-authored the Institutes of Medicine’s report on Relieving Pain in America. He was Co-Chair of the HHS/NIH National Pain Strategy, an effort to establish a national health strategy for pain care, education, and research.
