Overview

This enduring material is designed to enhance the registered nurse's knowledge of the nursing scope and standards of practice in the oncology setting. The enduring material will include definitions of and resources on the scope of the oncology nursing role and standards of professional practice. It also includes a review of the Texas Board of Nursing decision-making model to guide decisions on the appropriateness of institutional policies, nurse assignments, and interventions. Common examples of unprofessional conduct will be analyzed in order to enhance comprehension and application of concepts learned.

This enduring material is a recording of the live webinar "Overview of Scope and Standards of Oncology Nursing Practice". 


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Discuss the scope and standards of practice for the oncology nurse including key components for the Standards of Oncology Nursing Practice and Standards for Professional Practice.
  2. Explain the use of the Scope of Practice Decision-Making Model (DMM) in determining if a job position, policy, or assignment is safe and legally within the nurse’s scope of practice.
  3. Appraise examples of violations of the nursing practice act and the scope/ standard of nursing practice.
