Overview
As the number of cancer survivors increase, there is a parallel increase in the delivery of coordinated evidence-based care based on evolving discoveries in survivorship science. Researchers, clinicians, policy-makers, and patients often do not recognize or distinguish the specific skills and knowledge required to manage long-term follow-up of cancer survivors. Recent advancements in cancer survivorship research are under-recognized and under-utilized by these groups. As data emerges regarding clinical practice for follow-up of survivors, clinicians need to be aware of these new and effective scientific advances, and to assess the benefits and risks associated with these approaches.

Objectives
  1. Assimilate and translate the benefits to cancer survivors and their families by using an interprofessional approach to survivorship research and care
  2. Extend competence and knowledge of researchers and providers of the need to support research that will encourage healthy lifestyles, wellness, and prevention in the growing population of cancer survivors
  3. Provide a forum to expand knowledge and information about gaps, cancer survivorship research and unmet needs of long-term care of survivors

Accreditation
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
