Overview
Currently, there are approximately 17 million cancer survivors in the United States. This number is expected to rise to 22.2 million by the year 2030. Cancer survivors often experience complications from cancer and its various treatments that can impact function. Cancer rehabilitation has an important role in the cancer care continuum. This symposium will discuss selected cancer and cancer treatments that impact rehabilitation and provide evidence-based assessment and treatment strategies that can be applied to clinical practice. This three-day symposium covers a wide variety of topics in the field of cancer rehabilitation.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Illustrate 3 considerations for the expanding role of rehabilitation services in the care of cancer survivorship.
  2. Implement 3 effective rehabilitation concepts into treatment programs for clients with cancer during their care considering pre-habilitation needs, debilitation, and fatigue.
  3. Implement 3 effective lifestyle changes, including nutrition, exercise, or self-care, with clients with cancer during their rehabilitation process.
  4. Apply 3 concepts related to integrated medicine that impact clients with cancer undergoing rehabilitation related to common diagnoses.
  5. Illustrate 3 benefits of Near-Infrared Fluorescence (NIF) imaging technologies for clients with lymphedema
  6. Implement 3 concepts related to head and neck cancer clients with undergoing rehabilitation
  7. Illustrate 3 considerations when working with clients who transition from rehabilitation care to palliative & end of life care
  8. Apply 3 rehabilitation considerations when working with clients who have breast cancer.
  9. Apply 3 policy concepts that impact clients with cancer undergoing rehabilitation related to common diagnoses.
