Overview

The symposium is designed for interprofessional healthcare providers and focuses on defining the knowledge and skills needed to recognize and manage hereditary cancers to support optimal patient care. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of hereditary cancer predispositions to enhance genetic counseling practices, improve the appropriateness of genetic referrals, and facilitate the integration of precision medicine options into clinical care.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Explain the foundational principles and clinical practices involved in genetic cancer risk assessment
  2. Describe the impact of hereditary cancer on patients’ lives.
  3. Recognize patients who may benefit from personalized cancer therapy and evaluate appropriate timing for genetic testing referral.
  4. Develop and apply effective management approaches for patients with inherited susceptibilities to cancer.
  5. Analyze how genetic services are integrated into precision medicine practices.

A Hybrid Conference
The 9th Annual Hereditary Cancer Symposium will be held as a hybrid conference. The conference in-person registration will be held at the Duncan Building (CPB) Conference Center, Floor 8 located at 1155 Pressler Street, Houston, Texas 77030.  Registration and Continental breakfast opens at 7:30 AM and the Welcome and Introduction will begin at 8:30 AM on Friday, April 24, 2026 and will adjourn at 11:40 AM on Saturday, April 25, 2026.  The Zoom information and all other necessary links will be emailed out the week of the conference.

The welcome reception is scheduled for Friday, April 24, 2026 at 5:00 PM immediately after the conference adjourns. hors d’oeuvres and beer/wine bar will be served.

Call for Cases:
As part of our efforts to foster a collaborative and insightful discussion, we are inviting attendees to submit cases for review by our expert panel during the symposium. We are seeking cases that highlight complex or intriguing hereditary cancer scenarios, including but not limited to:

  • Rare or challenging diagnoses

  • Unique genetic patterns

  • Clinical management complexities

  • Cases that prompt new insights or questions in hereditary cancer research

If you have a case that fits this description and would like to have it reviewed and discussed by our panel of experts, we kindly ask that you submit a brief summary of the case, including relevant clinical and genetic details, by March 23, 2026.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Brief case summary

  • Relevant clinical and genetic data (including family history, testing results, etc.)

  • Any specific areas you'd like the panel to focus on

  • Optional: Images, charts, or other supporting documents (please attach as files)

Please submit your case to [email protected] by March 23, 2026 and include "2026 Symposium Case Presentation" in the subject line. Our expert panel will review all submissions and select a range of cases to present and discuss during the symposium.

When registering online a receipt (confirmation letter) will be automatically emailed to the e-mail address you list on the registration form.  Once your payment has been made, a receipt can be found in the MyCE tab of your PEP@MD Anderson account. 

Evaluation
A course evaluation tool will provide participants with the opportunity to comment on the value of the program content to their practice decisions, performance improvement activities, or possible impact on patient health status. Participants will also have the opportunity to comment on any perceived commercial bias in the presentations as well as to identify future educational topics.

Refund/Cancellation Policy
The registration fee, minus a $50.00 administration-handling fee, is refundable if a written request is received on or before Friday, April 3, 2026.  No refunds will be granted after these dates. The request for a registration refund must include the tax identification number of the company or institution if registration was paid by a company or institution check.

The Department of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) reserves the right to cancel activities prior to the scheduled date, if low enrollment or other circumstances make it necessary.  Each registrant will be notified by mail, e-mail, or at the phone or fax numbers given on the registration form.  In case of activity cancellation, the liability of the Department of Continuing Professional Education is limited to the registration fee.  CPE will refund the full registration fee. 

The Department of Continuing Professional Education reserves the right to limit the number of participants in a program and is not responsible for any expenses incurred by an individual whose registration is not confirmed and for whom space is not available.
