Overview
The purpose of this activity is to educate registered nurses on the principles of hematology-oncology nursing to increase their knowledge and to improve critical thinking skills. This educational activity provides an overview of various hematological cancers, overview of treatments, symptom management including management of hematologic oncologic emergencies, nursing implications, and patient education.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe the causes and clinical manifestations in the various types of hematological malignancies.
  2. Summarize diagnostic testing related to disease presentation, subsequent treatment modalities and side effect management for the hematology patient.
  3. Identify the urgency of common hematologic oncology emergencies and nursing implications.
  4. Summarize the nursing implications related to the treatment management of hematological malignancies, including considerations for comorbidities.
  5. Recognize available institutional and community resources available to the hematology cancer patients.

 REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION:


To receive Nursing Contact Hours for this activity, the participant must: 

  • Create an account in the Professional Education Portal (PEP) and save your Mobile Number to your PEP account if not already done.

  • Register for this activity.

  • During activity, TEXT your attendance to 1-844-912-1333 and up to 24hrs after the course has ended using the Activity ID provided by the Facilitator during program.

  • Must attend entire activity from start to end time.

  • Complete a participant evaluation in PEP, under the MyCE tab, within 30 consecutive days of the learning activity where you will also have immediate access to your Certificate.
