Overview
This series aims to direct participants as to how to apply the principles of evidence-based medicine in the diagnosis and management of patients with pulmonary disorders, particularly in reference to the oncology patient. Disease processes that are emphasized include pneumonias and pneumonitis, pulmonary vascular diseases, sleep disorders, airway disorders, interstitial lung diseases and pleural diseases. Additionally, the evidence based approach to the patient undergoing lung surgery will be included.

Objective(s): 1 Apply the principles of evidence-based medicine in the management of patients with Pneumonia. 2 Demonstrate an understanding of the latest advances in the diagnosis and management of pulmonary vascular diseases. 3 Implement national guidelines and standards in the diagnosis and management of airway disorders and interstitial lung diseases. 4 Perform accurate preoperative evaluation of patients undergoing lung surgery. 5 Utilize evidence-based medicine to appropriately identify and manage sleep disorders. 6 Utilize currently available evidence to appropriately manage patients with pleural disease.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Apply the principles of evidence-based medicine in the management of patients with Pneumonia.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the latest advances in the diagnosis and management of pulmonary vascular diseases.
  3. Implement national guidelines and standards in the diagnosis and management of airway disorders and interstitial lung diseases.
  4. Perform accurate preoperative evaluation of patients undergoing lung surgery.
  5. Utilize evidence-based medicine to appropriately identify and manage sleep disorders.
