Overview

The symposium aims to improve the recognition of the presenting signs of head and neck cancer and encourage timely referrals for evaluation and treatment. It will also teach the dentist to improve the management of oral symptoms related to multiple cancer therapies and be aware to the oral morbidities of cancer treatment. The symposium will offer the healthcare provider an update on multidisciplinary care of head and neck cancer patients and the sequela of oncologic treatment. Multiple topics will be presented: fundamentals of major cancer and biologic therapies, head and neck surgery techniques and reconstruction, management of oral complications related to cancer therapies, pain and symptom management, nutritional and psychological counseling, speech and swallowing rehabilitation, and prosthetic rehabilitation of the head and neck cancer patient. Participants will have an opportunity to discuss the fundamentals of major therapies for head and neck cancer and the management of treatment-induced complications.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Discuss the recognition of the presenting signs of head and neck cancer .
  2. Identify methods that increase timely referrals for biopsy and treatment.
  3. Develop improvement of management of oral symptoms related to multiple cancer therapies and be aware of the difficulties that treatment may create.

Deadline for abstract submissions extended to Friday, March 21, 2025.

Oral Oncology, Maxillofacial Prosthetics, Oral Medicine, and Oral Cancer Research are acceptable. All abstract submitters should be prepared to present their work as a poster.

Abstract Formatting Instructions
Limit poster abstracts to one page, typed in 12-point Times New Roman font, single spaced with one-inch margins, and left justified. Organize the abstract into Purpose, Methods, Results, and Conclusions. All abbreviations or acronyms should be spelled out the first time they are used. Provide three to five keywords describing the nature and content of the abstract. Please include the name of the conference, title of your presentation, author’s full name, highest degree, and institutional affiliation. Also please include author’s telephone, fax, and email information.

Abstract and Poster Notification Dates
The conference committee will select abstracts for presentations based on the scientific merit and the quality of the content. Abstracts that are not submitted in the format above will not be accepted. Abstracts will not be edited.

Accepted abstract first authors will be invited to create a Poster of their research for display. Freestanding 4 ft. x 8 ft. display boards and pushpins will be provided for the poster session.

The deadline for receipt of abstracts extended to Friday, March 21, 2025 at 11:59 PM CT. The first author of the abstract will receive an automated submission email confirming that the abstract has been received. Notification of acceptance for poster presentations with directives will be acknowledged by Wednesday, March 28, 2025 via email.

Registration Fee

Telephone registrations are not accepted.

When registering online a receipt (confirmation letter) will be automatically emailed to the e-mail address you list on the registration form.  Once your payment has been made, a receipt can be found in the MyCE tab of your PEP@MD Anderson account. 

Evaluation
A course evaluation tool will provide participants with the opportunity to comment on the value of the program content to their practice decisions, performance improvement activities, or possible impact on patient health status. Participants will also have the opportunity to comment on any perceived commercial bias in the presentations as well as to identify future educational topics.  The survey link will be provided during the review course.

Refund/Cancellation Policy
The registration fee, minus a $50.00 administration-handling fee, is refundable if a written request is received on or before Monday, March 10, 2025.  No refunds will be granted after these dates. The request for a registration refund must include the tax identification number of the company or institution if registration was paid by a company or institution check.

The Department of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) reserves the right to cancel activities prior to the scheduled date, if low enrollment or other circumstances make it necessary.  Each registrant will be notified by mail, e-mail, or at the phone or fax numbers given on the registration form.  In case of activity cancellation, the liability of the Department of Continuing Professional Education, is limited to the registration fee. CPE will refund the full registration fee.

The Department of Continuing Professional Education, reserves the right to limit the number of participants in a program and is not responsible for any expenses incurred by an individual whose registration is not confirmed and for whom space is not available.

Recording Attendance and Claiming CE Credits and Nursing Contact Hours

To ensure your attendance is recognized by the electronic portal on the day of the conference, you must link your email address to the system at least one-day before the meeting.

  • You can do this today! Send a TEXT message of the email address listed on your PEP@MD Anderson profile (the email address you used when you registered for the conference) to 844-912-1333 (MD Anderson’s attendance data line).
  • You will receive a confirmation from the portal that your account has been linked correctly.
  • You will record your attendance by texting the code 41536 (provided in the Zoom Webinar Chat) to the same MD Anderson’s attendance data line (844) 912-1333 (texting to record attendance only needs to be done once for both days of the activity).
  •  You can text your attendance starting 5-minutes before, anytime during or up to 24-hours after the activity (11:25 AM CT on Thursday, April 10th) to text in your attendance.  When texting the activity ID, only text the numbers. Do not include any special characters or words.
  • You will receive a text message back saying that your attendance has been recorded successfully.

Evaluation/Claiming Credit

  • After you have successfully recorded your attendance, you will see an evaluation in your PEP@MD Anderson portal by going to MyCE and clicking Evaluations & Certificates.
  • Note - There is no save option on the evaluation.  Please plan on completing the evaluation in one sitting.
  • Learners should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
  • We encourage you to complete the participant evaluation in PEP within 30 days.  The conference evaluation can be found by going to MyCE and Evaluations and Certificates.

After you complete the evaluation you will see your CE credits reflected on your transcript. Transcripts are found in MyCE-Transcripts.
