Overview

This activity will help MD Anderson healthcare professionals recognize the impact of professional and ethical behavior in the care provided to LGBTQ+ patients, visitors and colleagues. This activity is designed for learners to identify potential ethical dilemmas or possible difficult situations and work as a team to circumvent them by addressing questions and needs, using the methods discussed.

The Professional Education Committee would like to acknowledge support from the Activity Directors and Planning Committee Members of the Ethics Seminar Series in making this content available online.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe how collecting SOGI data from patients can help reduce health disparities (conversely how not collecting SOGI data perpetuates poor health for some populations).
  2. Recognize the impact of professional and ethical behavior in the care provided to LGBTQ+ patients, visitors, colleagues, etc.
  3. Integrate appropriate language and behavioral change into their own practice.
