Overview
The FATE protocol is one of several focused cardiac ultrasound (FOCUS) protocols. This workshop will consist of an introduction to Basic FATE protocol and offer sessions of hands-on-training (HOT) using echocardiography ultrasound. This workshop aims to help healthcare providers optimize the clinical evaluation of the cardiopulmonary system using transthoracic echocardiography. Through this workshop, healthcare professionals will learn information about a patient’s cardiopulmonary physiology, pathophysiology, and pathology.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify the normal sonographic features of the heart and pleura.
  2. Explain how to obtain the 6 basic FATE views.
  3. Demonstrate how to visualize right and left ventricular function.
  4. Demonstrate how to use M-mode for assessing cardiac dimensions and function.
  5. Recognize techniques to differentiate various cardiac pathologies.
  6. Discuss how to interpret echocardiographic findings.

Registration

The Basic Focus-Assessed Transthoracic Echocardiography (FATE) Workshop, will take place on Saturday, May 11, 2024.  This activity will start promptly at 7:30 AM and will conclude at 2:30 PM.

Advanced registration is required as space is limited.
  Due to the course pre-requisite, registration for this activity will close on April 26.

Schedule and Faculty Changes
Factors beyond our control may require modifications to the schedule and faculty. Should time allow, we will notify all registered individuals about any adjustments before the program begins. Changes on site due to local conditions will be announced in class.

Basic FATE Workshop Fees: registration fees include tuition, breakfast, lunch and FATE card.

Physicians (MD/DO)

    Workshop + Basic FATE e-course: $650

    Workshop Only: $595
     -only for individuals who have completed the online FATE course previously.

Please be aware that if you register after business hours, you will not receive the instructions to the E-Course until the next business day. Additionally, if you register on Friday after 5:00 PM, you will receive the instructions on the following Monday.

Business Days/Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

 Pre-Requisite

-For those participating in the workshop and the e-course, the e-course should be completed at least one week prior to the course. A minimum of 7 to 10 days should be set aside to complete the e-course. 

-For those participating in the workshop only, MUST show proof of completion of USabcd Basic FATE e-course.

When registering online a receipt (confirmation letter) will be automatically emailed to the e-mail address you list on the registration form.  Additional workshop information will be communicated via email 72 hours before the course start time.

Telephone registrations are not accepted.

Refund/Cancellation Policy
The registration fee, minus a $100.00 administration-handling fee, is refundable if a written request is received on or before April 11, 2024. No refunds will be granted after April 11, 2024. The request for a registration refund must include the tax identification number of the company or institution if registration was paid by a company or institution check. 


The Department of Continuing Professional Education (CPE), reserves the right to cancel activities prior to the scheduled date, if low enrollment or other circumstances make it necessary.  Each registrant will be notified by mail, e-mail, or at the phone or fax numbers given on the registration form. In case of activity cancellation, the liability of the CPE is limited to the registration fee. CPE will refund the full registration fee. 

CPE reserves the right to limit the number of participants in an activity and is not responsible for any expenses incurred by an individual whose registration is not confirmed and for whom space is not available.

Evaluation
A course evaluation tool will provide participants with the opportunity to comment on the value of the program content to their practice decisions, performance improvement activities, or possible impact on patient health status. Participants will also have the opportunity to comment on any perceived commercial bias in the presentations as well as to identify future educational topics.

In support of improving patient care, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Credit Designation
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.25 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
