Overview

Palliative/Supportive care is one of the new fields in medicine recently recognized by The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). There is limited early access to Palliative care despite its known benefits in improving the quality of life in patients with advanced Illness. The goal of this 26th annual international interdisciplinary congress is to provide the latest advances in best practices in the field of Palliative/Supportive care. The content was determined by a interdisciplinary committee of experts in the field of Palliative/Supportive care based on previous evaluations and current advances in the field. The sessions will be plenary, workshops and rapid fire format.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Develop effective communication with patients in the advanced stages of cancer or debilitating disease and provide quality End-of Life Care.
  2. Identify the moral and ethical dilemmas encountered in palliative care, incorporating supportive care strategies to improve patient care.
  3. Integrate state of the art pain and symptom management for patients with advanced disease.
  4. Apply palliative care principles to life threatening disease.
  5. Articulate two best practices that includes the latest state of the art advances in palliative and supportive care.

The symposium will begin at 8:00 am on Friday, September 22, 2023, and will adjourn at 5:45 pm on Saturday, September 23, 2023.

The Symposium registration fee includes tuition for the Live Internet Activity and online materials.  Registration for the Updates in Hospice and Palliative Medicine and Intensive Physician Board Review Course is NOT included.

Refund/Cancellation Policy
The registration fee, minus a $50 administration-handling fee, is refundable if a written request is received on or before August 19, 2023 for both activities.  No refunds will be granted after these dates. The Department of Continuing Professional Education (CPE), reserves the right to cancel activities prior to the scheduled date, if low enrollment or other circumstances make it necessary.  Each registrant will be notified by mail, e-mail, or at the phone or fax numbers given on the registration form.  In case of activity cancellation, the liability of CPE is limited to the registration fee. A course evaluation tool will provide participants with the opportunity to comment on the value of the program content to their practice decisions, performance improvement activities, or possible impact on patient health status.
