Overview

The National Academy of Medicine, formerly called the Institute of Medicine, recognized cancer survivors faced complex physical and emotional health problems, which are often unmet. As of January 2019, there were over 1.1 million cancer survivors living in Texas. This 8-part series provides an overview of cancer survivorship, including phases of cancer survivorship, current trends and models of survivorship care, and evidence-based practices to reduce long-term sequelae of cancer treatment and the enhance survivorship care delivered.

ACCME Objectives
  1. Describe the psychosocial impact of cancer on survivors
  2. Assess challenges and how to address them as part of clinical care for survivors related to financial, emotional distress, and relationship focused issues

ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. Self-report intent to change practice by applying knowledge of the psychosocial impact of cancer on survivors.

Accreditation
MEDICINE
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center designates this internet enduring material for a maximum of .75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
 
ABIM MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION             
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to .75 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
 
Participant completion data will be shared with and transmitted to the ACCME on the participant’s behalf. In order to receive MOC points, you must pass the post-test with a score of 70% or higher.
