Overview
Pediatric Oncologic Emergencies provides nurses and allied health professionals with knowledge and nursing implications of the various emergencies that may affect the pediatric hematology/oncology/stem cell transplant patient. Specifically, this course will review: Sepsis and Septic Shock, Respiratory Distress and Anaphylaxis, Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation, Tumor Lysis Syndrome and Hyperleukocytosis, Cytokine Release Syndrome and Immunoeffector Cell Associated Neurotoxicity Syndrome, Monoclonal Antibody side effect management, Increased Intracranial Pressure, Syndrome of Inappropriate Diuretic Hormone and Diabetes Insipidus, Spinal Cord Compression and Seizures.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
At the completion of this activity the RN will:

  1. Enhance their knowledge of pediatric oncologic emergencies and how these emergencies may affect the patient and caregivers.
