Overview
Caring for patients with advanced-stage cancer poses challenges for healthcare teams, necessitating attention to medical, psychosocial, ethical, and spiritual needs. The Board Review Course is designed to equip physicians with the knowledge and competence in Palliative Medicine, preparing them for the ABIM Hospice and Palliative (HPM) exam.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Analyze the spiritual, legal, and medical challenges confronting patients at the end of life.
  2. Deliver optimal end-of-life care encompassing state-of-the-art pain management, symptom control, and psychosocial support.
  3. Illustrate effective communication techniques with patients in advanced stages of cancer or debilitating disease, offering high-quality end-of-life care.

This Virtual education activity offers Pain Management Credits which may be used to fulfill the new DEA Education Requirements.

Updates in Hospice and Palliative Medicine and Intensive Physician Board Review Course - September 16 - 18, 2025

A Virtual Live Streaming Course 

The Board Review Course will begin at 8:00 am on Tuesday, September 16 and will adjourn at 5:30 pm on Thursday, September 18.  Location: Virtual (NOTE: All time is Central Standard Time (CST). 

Registration fee includes tuition for this in-person Live Activity.  The deadline for advanced registration is August 15, 2025.

Updates in Hospice and Palliative Medicine and Intensive Physician Board Review registration fee includes tuition for the Internet Live Activity and online course materials.  All material for the Board Review will be available for 12 months. 

Registration Fees:

Telephone registrations are not accepted.

Registration for the 27th Supportive & Palliative Care Clinical and Research Symposium is NOT included.  Separate registration is required.

 Refund/Cancellation Policy
The registration fee, minus a $50 administration-handling fee, is refundable if a written request is received on or before August 15, 2025 for both activities. No refunds will be granted after these dates. The request for a registration refund must include the tax identification number of the company or institution if registration was paid by a company or institution check.

The Department of Continuing Professional Education (CPE), reserves the right to cancel activities prior to the scheduled date, if low enrollment or other circumstances make it necessary. Each registrant will be notified by mail, e-mail, or at the phone or fax numbers given on the registration form.  In case of activity cancellation, the liability of the CPE is limited to the registration fee. CPE will refund the full registration fee.

A course evaluation tool will provide participants with the opportunity to comment on the value of the program content to their practice decisions, performance improvement activities, or possible impact on patient health status. Participants will also have the opportunity to comment on any perceived commercial bias in the presentations as well as to identify future educational topics.  The survey link will be provided during the review course.
